USS Badger (FF 1071)

- formerly DE 1071 -
- decommissioned -
- sunk as a target -

USS BADGER was the 20th KNOX - class frigate. Decommissioned on December 20, 1991, and stricken from the Navy list on January 11, 1995, the BADGER was finally sunk as a target during RIMPAC '98. The exercise to sink the BADGER started on July 21, 1998. The BADGER absorbed hits from Penguin, Hellfire, Maverick and telemetry Harpoon missiles, and was still afloat at sunset. Anyway, search aircraft were not able to locate the BADGER on the next morning. So it is assumed that the frigate sunk during the evening of July 21.
