Named after the city in Alabama, the USS TUSCALOOSA was the 9th NEWPORT - class Tank Landing Ship and the second ship in the Navy to bear the name. Decommissioned on February 18, 1994, the TUSCALOOSA spent the following years laid up at the Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility in Pearl Harbor, Hi. On July 14, 2014, she was sunk as a target during exercise RIMPAC 2014 off the Hawaiian Islands.
