USS KIRK was the 36th KNOX - class frigate. Decommissioned on August 6, 1993, the KIRK was leased to Taiwan the same day. There she was recommissioned as FEN YANG. The KIRK was stricken from the Navy list on January 11, 1995. On September 29, 1999, the ship was finally purchased by Taiwan.

November 21, 1983 | An SH-2 helicopter involved in a search and rescue mission lands aboard USS KIRK for a hot refueling. While the helicopter was being secured by the flight deck crew, the KIRK takes a heavy roll to port causing the helicopter to tip over. One member of the helicopter crew is injured. An investigation later finds out that the landing was conducted in conditions outside of those permitted. |
