USS PEORIA was the fifth NEWPORT - class Tank Landing Ship and the fourth ship in the Navy to honor the city in Illinois. Decommissioned on January 28, 1994, and stricken from the Navy list on November 6, 2002, the PEORIA spent the following months at the Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility (NISMF), Pearl Harbor, HI, until she was sunk as a target during RIMPAC 2004 in July 2004.
