USS FAIRFAX COUNTY was the 15th NEWPORT - class Tank Landing Ship. Both decommissioned and stricken from the Navy list on August 17, 1994, the FAIRFAX COUNTY was subsequently sold to Australia where she was recommissioned as MANOORA.

| September 29, 1978 | Mediterranean | The USS FAIRFAX COUNTY suffers extensive damage to her number 3 engine room and second division berthing compartment in a major fire while en route to Naples, Italy. Two crewmembers are injured and the ship is placed in tow. |
