USS WHITE PLAINS was the fourth MARS - class Combat Stores Ship. Decommissioned on April 17, 1995, and stricken from the Navy list on August 24, 1995, WHITE PLAINS was then berthed at the Naval Inactive Ships Maintenance Facility Pearl Harbor, HI. Finally, on July 8, 2002, WHITE PLAINS was disposed of as a target during RIMPAC 2002 near Hawaii. The exact location of the wreckage is 022° 55' 00.9" North, 160° 10' 00.3" West.

Accidents aboard USS WHITE PLAINS:

Fire in the engine room of USS WHITE PLAINS kills six sailors and injures five others while the ship is operating about 100 miles east of Hong Kong in the South China Sea. The ship is towed to Subic Bay, Philippines, for repairs.
August 28, 1992Guam
USS WHITE PLAINS breaks away from her berth during typhoon Omar, resulting in her shaft and propeller being bend. The WHITE PLAINS never recovered from the damage suffered during the accident.
