Accidents aboard USS DAVIDSON:

DateWhereEvents
June 1980Arabian SeaUSS DAVIDSON suffers a major fire in her boiler room in the Arabian Sea after leaving Diego Garcia for Gonzo Station. The fire occured during an unrep alongside the USS SACRAMENTO (AOE 1), when a fuel oil/salt water compensating system component failed releasing about 100,000 gallons of JP5 and saltwater into the space. As DAVIDSON burned fuel in the boilers, saltwater filled the fuel tanks so that an even draft was maintained. The fire burned out some equipment but was put out (sufficated) by the large volume of JP5 and saltwater and the professional actions of the BT watch team. Salt water and fuel (JP5) contaminated electrical motors and components. USS DAVIDSON was under tow for 8 days to Diego Garcia and stayed there for 30 days while ship yard workers, repairs parts, and insulation (lagging) were flown in from Subic Bay. No sailors were hurt.
August 1983PacificUSS DAVIDSON suffers a Class Alpha fire while operating in the Pacific.
