National Defense Reserve Fleet ("Mothball Fleet") Suisun Bay, Benicia, CA.

Cape Fear (T-AK 5061)

The photos below were taken by me and show the CAPE FEAR laid-up at Suisun Bay, Calif., on March 27, 2010. Built in 1971 as SS LASH ESPANIA, the ship was later renamed SS AUSTRAL LIGHTNING before being reacquired by MARAD in May 1985. Subsequently assigned to the Ready Reserve Fleet, the CAPE FEAR was reassigned to the National Defense Reserve Fleet in July 2006.
