One of the STURGEON - class fast attack submarines, the USS LAPON was the second ship in the Navy to bear the name. Both decommissioned and stricken from the Navy list on August 8, 1992, the USS LAPON is since then berthed at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Wash., awaiting disposal through the Navy's Nuclear Powered Ship and Submarine Recycling Program there.
