Northern Light (T-AK 284)

The photo below was taken by me and shows the NORTHERN LIGHT laid-up at Suisun Bay, Calif., on March 27, 2010. Built in 1961 for Moore McCormack Lines, the ship served as SS MORMACCOVE before acquired by the Navy in 1980. Converted and placed in service as USNS NORTHERN LIGHT (T-AK 284), the ship joined the National Defense Reserve Fleet at Suisun Bay in mid-1985. Transferred to the Maritime Administration in 2000, the NORTHERN LIGHT is presently awaiting final disposal.
