Newport News, VA, Aug. 2, 1997 -- Tugboats help position Precommissioning Unit HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75) for docking at its new berthing pier at the Newport News shipyard. It was moved to support "dead load" testing performed on Aug. 19. "Dead loads" are specially-weighted, wheeled vehicles, ranging from 15,000 to 90,000 pounds. More than 60 vehicles were launched from catapult 2 into the James River, resulting in plumes of water at heights greater than 120 feet.
