USS BIRMINGHAM was the eighth submarine in the LOS ANGELES - class and the third ship in the Navy named after Birmingham, Alabama. Both decommissioned and stricken from the Navy list on December 22, 1997, she was the sixth ship in her class to be retired. USS BIRMINGHAM was last homeported in Pearl Harbor, HI., and later went through the Navy's submarine recycling program at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Wash. Recycling was completed on May 31, 2016.
